In a blink of a month, she vanished
Like a petulant mimosa, receding
Quicker still than a busy second
From child to tormented soul

A new found privacy, discovered
In closed doors and awkward silences
Plunged into the realm of monosyllables
We blindly descend, groping darkly

Sweet innocence departs, revealing
Dark clouds of brooding impatience
Rumbling with heavy sighs, and laden -
With unspoken outbursts of “Gawd!”

Perchance, an accidental moment reveals
A sudden glance of recognition past
That quickly fades to lingering wisps
Of memories and innocent days

Thus receding, into a hardened shell
Cocooned in her private world, sullen yet
Observing and absorbing, evolving and changing
Till what creature exquisite shall one day — alight!
