My lungs
emptied themselves
when you told us
you thought about it.
We all think
about dying.
But not [always] like that.
I wanted
to hug you
until you remembered
how I’d miss you,
how we’d all miss you.
I thought about
all the times
we spent smiling
before we learned
what frowning felt like.
Before life
overwhelmed us.
And when you said
“I’ve been depressed
for a while now”
I knew you
just wanted
someone to listen.
