I wish that we were on smoother terms.
It’s clear that we’ve become so distant now,
I can see through her words.
“Happy birthday🎂”
Scroll once, and for months there’s only been those wishes.
Scroll twice, “I love you too”.
But in between,
The time flew to put so much distance
Between us, those words, and when she meant them.
The real message lies in the way she shows me,
Her text punctuated with the cake emoji.
A baked sign
That I didn’t understand what I had
Until I ate mine.
