I Will Never Be a Quiet Woman
Let’s adjust that expectation right now
I will never be a quiet woman
Content to let the world burn down
I’ll run my mouth until my grave
The only time I’ll go to ground
I will never be a demure woman
Tucking away my human yearning
I will dissent until the bitter end
I’ll hold the line while the world is burning
I will never be a perfect woman
I’m flawed and messy, as is my right
And still, I’ll show up clutching my coffee
Fueling up for this long fight
I will never be a temperate woman
I talk back and won’t fall in line
I won’t turn my eyes away
Complacent in these unjust times
I will never be a quiet woman
Let us discard that expectation
Human rights need humans willing
To keep hope alive for a better nation.
