I write my name

Label given, worn, forgotten

I write my name for you to see.
I write my name for the world to remember.
I write my name for the birds to understand I’m not one of them.

I write my name and my life seeps through the letters,
G for God, goodness, grace, gratitude, greatness,
E for eternal but also ephemeral, elation, elasticity, end.

I stop in wonder at the power of my mind,
how infinitely it can fly if only I give it the wings.
There’s no H for happy or L for love amongst the letters of my name.

The love pulsating through my veins
washes waves of happy coming and going,
leaving a sandy shore that spells content.

My body is my vessel given a human label,
a name to be distinguished from all the other vessels.
I didn’t choose it, it chose me.

I’m neither proud nor displeased to wear my label.
It soon, after a generation, or if I’m outstanding two,
will melt in the universe of all other labels given, worn, forgotten.
