in search of structure in the wind

The melody of words unsaid
echoes like the crash
of a wintry waterfall, half monument
half lie

rehearsal for a eulogy
delivered in the wind
the silent creek locked in ice
the family photograph, black on white,
a strand of flowing time
a stand-in for a life

in the warming April noon a breeze,
a pluck, a noise, a clearing throat

a little lyric folded neat
inside the pocket of a quiet coat.
