You treat my love with contempt
so why do I wait around for you?
My suffering is ignored;
my pain is dismissed;
what hold do you have on me?
What hope?
What fear?
Let’s look at this rationally.

(1) I don’t “feel the love tonight.”
Obviously neither do you.
(2) I text you,
and you ignore me with great efficiency.
How long can I delay?
perhaps you wonder.
Or better yet,
(3) Treat me with scorn.
Oh…it’s him. I can’t handle that right now.
Do you think so little of me?
Let’s look at our options.

You receive a text from me.
Does it contain love and affection? — yes or no?
Yes.
Do you respond right away — yes or no?
No.
He probably doesn’t need to hear back from me.
I care nothing about him.
Even less than nothing.
I won’t dignify him with a response.
I don’t even think about him.
Actually I forgot that he wrote me.
Actually I forgot that I probably should respond.
What was I doing again?
Oh right, going out with someone that I’m actually interested in.
