Lit Up — May’s Prompt: Nostalgia

The loneliness that batters my heart

will fly away

as soon as the sweetness of your smile

reaches my memories.

~

Then my smile reflected in your eyes

will soften my mind

and I’ll smile remembering

the flowers in my hair.

~

My pink-flowered shoes

will carry me again

on our walks through the gardens

or under city lights.

~

Our talks and my giggles

your jokes and my come-backs

my dreams and my fears

will live again.

~

There’s darkness in this room

and the doctors keep talking

about the darkness in my heart,

but they don’t know.
