My love for you
My love for you ran, a fearful deer
hiding in forests, caves, or behind hills.
A frown on your forehead would set it astray
far over mountains or highways.
My love for you beamed, shining rays of wonder
into melancholic grays of distant seas
each time a smile lifted up
the corners of your lips.
My love for you has quieted into an adagio
performed by languid fingers on a piano
adorning a rocky beach
bathed in the moonlight.
Memories of the deer and the gleaming rays
make us both smile and squeeze hands.
I much prefer this love with a salty breeze
that we breathe in together, steady on our feet.
