Sunset
(A Poem of Longing)

The sun slips,
Dipping beneath a painted Western sky.
Struggling against the horizon,
It pleads to witness
What it’s never glimpsed before:
Nightfall.
Unable to hold its grasp, Sun waivers
Then falls;
Leaving only us and darkness;
Leaving only us in darkness,
To gape,
Again,
And awe.
