The Gardener
A poem
Happy with his hands in the dirt
the gardener hears the sweet earth-song tarry on the breeze.
He plants life and hope in sunken furrows
and listens to the heartbeat of the land.
The ground groans with delight upon receiving
new seeds to grow and send forth.
He smiles amid contentment
and sighs in gentle unison.
His kind body moves with the earth’s tides,
digging and planting inside life’s rhythm,
and green magic passes down his fingers
as he breathes soil-scented air.
A robin sits upon his shoulder.
She watches for a morsel to fly out with
and the gardener’s soul-roots
spread like fingers in the earth.
