It wasn’t the first time he received her belongings in the mail. Though, it haunted him of that night every single time.

“You shouldn’t be saying such things.” There was a malicious glint in his eyes. “I may just kill you.”

“Is that a threat?” His assistant asked calmly, unfazed. Her back was to him. “I know you too well that you wouldn’t have the nerve to do such a thing.”

She felt a sudden sharp pain as she slightly lurched forward. Slowly, she glanced down and saw the blade of her kitchen knife and her blood seeping through her white blouse. Her mouth agape, she turned toward her boss-turned lover, her body feeling significantly weaker.

“It’s amazing…,” he had begun, “the lengths to which people will go to save their skin.”

Her earrings. Her ring. Her necklace. What she had worn that night was burned as soon as he received it. No one could’ve known.

It was the first time he took action.

After calls to the local post-office to cut off mail delivery, he peacefully enjoyed the remaining days in town before his official moving date across the country.

Upon arriving at his new place with a single large suitcase in tow, he noticed a brown envelope on the marble counter.

No date. No address.

“Oh, I was asked to deliver that here.”

He turned to his agent, who glanced at the envelope before taking out a smoke, unaware of his sudden, overwhelming panic underneath his calm countenance.

Enclosed in the envelope was a small, ripped piece of paper with the same handwriting on the envelope. One he recognized from so many years of reading her notes.

Found you.
