The Queue

Snaking monstrously, the queue
advancing one step in time
Can you recall, when last it happened?

Seems like ages, I chanced
this office, a counter indescript
and the ages meander past

A man sits before us
neither sees nor cares
Decadence embodied

There go the fans, hot summer
“Damned electricity board!”
Same decadence, same monotony

A collective scream bursts forth
Unvoiced, in the tense silence
“Damn the heat! Damn this office!”

And the man sits faceless
Mindless, drudging along
Unburdened, unjustly free

Ah! another wave undulates
the queue pulses, another step
Can you recall, when last it happened?
