The silence I breathe

Poem inspired by Audre Lorde

The silence I breathe will not protect me
it rests in darkness, bathed by twilight
where I am not, still, the words I want to be

My impending future hides no guarantee
when days exhale shades above my height
the silence I breathe will not protect me

Fairness must lie beyond all I can see
with missing pieces waiting in plain sight
where I am not, still, the words I want to be

Swimming like a lonely bait in a crowded sea
chasing infinity through morning light
the silence I breathe will not protect me

Gazing from a distant star, yearning to be free
unmoving, soundless against daylight
where I am not, still, the words I want to be

So I move forward through clouds who disagree
by this moon, my dreams are rulers of the night
the silence I breathe will not protect me
I keep on fighting for the words I want to be
