I like your handwriting

I like the way your letters stand
Like little children, hand in hand
They try their best to help me understand
The joy and pain that move your heart and hand

I want to touch your heart and hold your hand
And read your joy and pain from where you stand
In every word and dot and ampersand
Until you smile and say, “you understand.”

I wish I were the paper for your words
I want to see your eyes and feel your sigh
And catch the tears that fall along your words
And let them bloom the words that make you cry
