Walking Along the Morning Train
A Poem On How We Feel Most Mornings
The screaming takes the silence
of the busy train tracks.
We tune it out —
We’ve already heard it before.
Single-file lines get covered in the descending snow,
black coats with black hair stand at the doors
of the oncoming train that will take us to
those lifeless places we have to go.
Days go by, until they become years
of automatic movements from automated bodies —
Hopefully one of them will realize
that they do not have to be this lonely.
