A Bird’s Eye View

Alex Wigan

Sometimes you feel like the slingshot
at times you feel like the stone
none of which matters to the bird
as it catches a glimpse of death
arriving in mid flight ending on the
ground
alone~

The message said, “I got fired today~!”
And 5 decades of life crystallizes into stone
And the silence is water raising
First only ankle deep
By arrival home, your waist soaking
And in your head the words of the cook on deck
“It’s too rough to feed ya”
And sometime before nightfall flat on your bed
“World it’s been good to know ya”

The question is asked
does anyone knows where the love of God goes
when staring into your final empty flask
Calling for all hands on deck
but the answers are faint
In the mirror across the bar sits
the solitary passenger
its reflection the face of the captain
locked in their perpetual shipwreck

As the silence grows the chorus rings louder
Sometimes you feel like the slingshot
at times you feel like the stone
none of which matters to the bird
as it catches a glimpse of death
arriving in mid flight never its desire
to have died
alone~

Stay with me, we may never be able
to set you free
But always you’ll be able to set your foot
upon dry sand
You’ll never walk alone
I’ll be right here holding your hand.
