A walk through recovery

I pressed the button beside the door
It lit up with a blatant glow,
There I sat with thoughts too many
A door stood between the quasi-help and me.

A smiling face appeared to greet me
As the door opened ajar, to accommodate me,
Please take a seat — she uttered
You deserve the easy-chair — she averred.

It started off with my history
Then my feelings and miseries,
She listened to me patiently
Absorbing every word acceptably.

Medication is what you need — she suggested,
The idea to which I then hesitated
It will benefit you — she assured,
It was my only help I had conferred.

The next few weeks were exasperating
My mind and body overreacting,
The rockiness of my ride was now profound
I feared the destination will never be found.

But then — The heavy metal I bore
suddenly seemed lighter;
The colors around me
seemed so much more brighter.

Music to my ears was suddenly palpable
My empathy was intense and tangible,
Voraciousness of my reading had been reinstated
My misery was now manifested.

Your smile reaches your eyes — she exclaimed!
Your illness had made you a slave — she proclaimed.
My journey was overwhelming indeed,
But that’s what depression does to you, I perceived.

Once a month I waited outside that door,
To see the smiling face that I adored,
What new wonder will I learn today,

For my mental health, to which I had surrendered!
