Let’s have an affair
shhh, let’s make it a secret one
let’s invite lies to the table
let’s then footsie under the same table
let’s make wild passionate love
then let’s get rid of all evidence thereof
let’s invite guilt for the rest of our lives.
let’s thrive while our marriage slowly dies
let’s give home to shame
then let’s play the blame game
let’s give reason to our treason
perhaps that will be enough justification
for our fractured conscience to survive
let’s die a little inside in order to stay alive
let’s invite crutches to meet our ends
let’s make alibis of our friends
let’s expect them to be kind
or just plain blind
how does it matter
when in the name of love
trust we shatter
let’s set an example for generations to follow
let’s demonstrate hollow and shallow
after all we just want to have an affair
an affair Karma will always remember.

Notes from my desk: Perhaps a little hard hitting? Yes! But I cannot stress enough on the harsh realities of an extra marital affair.

An affair only provides a quick fix for all the parts that you cannot address with your partner, have tried to work upon but have failed or just don’t think it’s worth trying anymore for some reason. This new thrill, risk, romance, secrecy is all too exciting to give up and provides a perfect escape from reality.

However, the truth is, dating a married individual can be extremely risky, painful and seldom works out well. It cripples your soul, adds to your baggage and disillusions your idea of true love and happiness.

This then, is just a small reminder to love yourself better. Right now, ask yourself why you’re okay to have an affair? Why live life as a shameful secret and never experience the full spectrum of a loving relationship?

You deserve better. And frankly, so does your spouse.
