Blood Orange

My eyes fluttered open blearily. My hands rotely peeled the sticky, wet orange. I’d woken up like this before — unaware of how I’d gotten to where I stood. Somehow, in the darkness, I knew I was in the kitchen.

A steady dripping noise assaulted my ears. My toes stretched outward, feeling the cool bare tile beneath my feet.

Tile? My mind searched for a comparison between the warmer feel of my vinyl kitchen floor…
