By what command is it that Faith is a must?

Clinging to the Past It is pulled underwater and drowned.
Grasping for the Future It cannot pin the fog.
To be Now It would rather find itself a prisoner.

If I do not cling and never grasp
No prisoner will I be.

Though Faith is not without value
It is not necessary.
