Mortality being the candles on my cake

Perhaps it's the realization of change
It could be the dampened ticks of the clock
Conversations seem to have drifted away
The world that once stood at 11:59
now emerges at 12:01

Like spitting out lukewarm
and tasting for the first time
It is the taste of urgency
It is the struggle to capture
the vanishing taste of that last bite
of life
It is the acceptance
that where once life moved so very slowly
it now races like a fireball
quickly losing its oxygen
But something about today
It having awoken
the dormancy of fearlessness
Vocalizing the long silence
of dreams unfulfilled
Suppressing time
while fighting time's refusal to be bridled
Moving clear of the margins
while still bearing the scars
from the shackles of marginalization
It is akin to being infused
wanting not to lose time while consuming
meaningless meals
Something about today
makes me grateful to have arrived
