Bring me not
No Flowers When I’m Dead~
I can neither smell sweet nor foul
As they committed the body to the soil
we lost
forever
all sight of that which was their physical beauty
But
I will forever keep their heart ❤️ where it will never die
For as long as I live
I will have oxygen for two
Grant us this day
to accomplish if only half the things
we say we’d do
At times we struggle
with resolving our emotional
historical
conflicts
with others
Sadly only to discover
long after the pain of discontent
long after the scars of holding on
all we needed to have done
was to heal by letting go
Do not try to find love
on my death’s bed
But whilst in the celebration
of life’s complexities
instead
As Mom once said
I cannot smell neither sweet nor foul
your lovely flowers when I am dead
So bring me all your bouquets
while I am alive
even in your anger
Because
soon it will be my turn
to give you fresh daisies
from that place I’m buried
This is the time at which
you hum a chorus
This is the break in the line
from here on in
nothing in life will again rhyme
Everything committed to memory
as
faces fade
voices silenced
only the echoes in our heads
from the music
absent of notes
their smile comes and goes
their shadow mysteriously
flows
through hallways now cold
Their whispering in our ears
“remember when I said
be bold”
Truth be told
what I now seek most
is the courage of your
ghost
