One Loss, One Day
A poem
Never have I gained a thing
Without losing another thing
I’m not sure that’s how it’s supposed to work
Change, change, and change
And then one day you are suddenly awake
And the Sun is still for the length of the sad cry
Of your unknown animal in the far trees
And you see evidence of chains
Broken on your wrists
Now I can fly off as I wish
To forget the things I lost
The human water, the brief embrace of one person
The smell of a fire
That one distilled love in another time
With no minerals or salt
Just water, just love
