Standing at the edge of the precipice
Heart pounding, anxiety drowning
Each attempt at peace

Solitude, all she’s known brings
Hesitation when faced with a crossroads
And a new possibility
Lifting her voice in a song of old
Lyrical, this well known melody

Reminiscent of days gone by
Expectations, once so high,
Came crashing down in an
Odious wave of unanticipated
Virulent maleficence. This past
Expunged now
Revealing room for new heartbreak
