Space Traveler
A poem about dealing with the loss of a loved one
In a dark space, up in the sky
I see you-
Floating around.
Ceaselessly spinning in your new reality
Neglecting the laws of humanity
Above all cruel inhumanity.
Twirling around unpolluted sceneries,
The stars around you like diamonds,
Are shining only for you.
But how could they ever compare to
your laugh and your smile-
Making them weak in comparison.
Because your light is too bright
This world could not keep up.
Your face took a grey hue when we said goodbye to you.
But now it’s shining in silver
Like the moon,
Like the universe all around.
I see it guiding me like a map to your light.
Your embrace is what has kept me sane,
Your words allowed me to dream.
So how am I supposed to fly
When the sky suddenly, unexpectedly
ripped the wings off my back.
I look up in that dark sky to find you there,
My wings on your back,
My angel above.
I might not believe in God, or angels and demons,
But your presence undeniably lives on
All around me
In the trees, in the sky, in the water, in the wind.
In my heart.
The one I wish I could give to you
The one you lost too soon.
