The Green of Spring

Have you seen
the green of spring
and the buds in bloom?

Walk along a trail
into a field of flowers.
Rest beneath a canopy of trees.

Lively green leaves
along spindly twigs
and majestic branches.
Foliage to decorate the sky.

Feel the soft flat needles
of the fine fir
or the spiny holly,
not yet bursting berries.

Watch a squirmy green worm
make its way
along a leaf’s ledge.

Take a dandelion
and make a wish —
as white seeds settle
into a sea of green.

The green of spring.
Seductive as the scent
of fresh cut grass.

Long before
our wonder has gone
and even new blossoms
no longer seem new.

Long before
the scorch of summer,
a brilliant fall display,
and the silence of winter.

Have you seen
the green of spring
and the buds in bloom?
