the moon’s ambivalence

Why is the moon melancholic?
in the vastness of the sky
I see the trail of her woes
every drop, a throb
and my heart is a bucket
entranced by her desolate state
in her melancholy, the moon never fails
unescorted yet appeasing
heartbeats playing the tune
seemingly enjoying the torment
she must have always known
she is the only moon
and the earth is fine with it.
