The Price I Pay

I stay at home
Locked up and safe
My family close
And together at least

Many days have passed
Since I went out in the sun
And labored under the heat
To bring the money we need

I hear the due dates coming near
And the creditors’ cries from afar
I sit at home and watch them come
With dreaded fear and no income

Our cash reserves have long run day
And meals have been watered down
Hunger and Poverty are our new norm
Shame and Debt will be all we have left

In avoiding the Death we cannot see
From walking tall with our head held high
We have now bowed and on our knees
Worried if we will ever get back up again
