This Poetic Sea

Inside this calcified shell
my body bends like liquid

complex thoughts and flowery verb
are not enough to entertain

I must let the salt slide free
the winding spirit inside of me

but all is for naught if you
are lost in the transcription

poetry is a languid motion
an inner discourse without translation

I am all foot and drag and sand
across the vast sea-floor

vision is nothing without insight
nothing without metaphor, without sound

bubbles rise, plump with imagery
but lost, so lost without you
