The leaf turns three times on its way down to
that puddle. That spot where the earth does weep.
That same soft splash only heard by a few.
A frog down bottom shuffles back to sleep.

A rain drop breaks those surface tension locks.
Relief, released, from water’s grip, leaf sighs.
To murky bottom back and forth leaf rocks.
A puff, as that same cloud of silt will rise.

Such gentle contact, each time back so brief.
The same flash of our brilliant sun’s bright light
on shiny side of ever falling leaf.
And each time falling leaf’s feeling alright.

To rot and be released in next spring’s sky.
To fall, no care at all for how or why.
