“I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But as much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking.” — Carl Sagan.

I can feel it drawing me closer, universal arms shrouding me
with its mysteries playing on my mind the older I grow.

What will I become once this mortal coil is shed?
Enticing my thirst to drink from this cup of celestial knowledge
excites and makes me feel happy in this awareness.

I am grateful for my time here on this vibrant planet
with its many experiences to learn from,
more so through this pandemic!
I now have more time for you dear Universe.

The mind boggles studying unfathomable wonders,
your sheer size enough for trillions of lifetimes
to trip around a tiny part of your vast expanse.

I form more questions for which there are no answers,
I’m just getting ready for when our time comes.

Well if I thought it I presume it came from within collective matter
that makes up us, or is it just a little cosmic joke you so often like to play?

With trepidation, I will leave this place consumed in pure elation rejoicing in your secrets performing a nimble dance as I trip your light fantastic;
if of course, you will permit me.
