Florida Library Partners with Nature Center for Children’s Writing Contest

Children visiting the Boca Raton Public Library in Southeast Florida will have a special story time to look forward to that will feature three unique stories written by local kids. The young writers will be the winners of Luna’s Annual Story Writing Contest, a writing contest hosted by the library in partnership with the nearby Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Since the center specializes in sea turtle rehabilitation, the theme of the writing contest is the adventures the center’s green sea turtle mascot, Luna.

Children in three different age categories (6–8, 9–11, and 12–15) can submit an original short story about Luna going on an adventure. Children are encouraged to illustrate their stories with original drawings, and each submission requires a form that includes the child’s information and a legal guardian’s consent to the contest terms.

This year is the third year the Boca Raton Public Library and the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center have teamed up to host a writing contest for children in their community. Videos of past winning stories are posted on social media. In addition to having their winning story read at story time, each winner will receive a fun prize package sponsored by the center’s Friends group.
