In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Professor Quirrell sneaks a troll into the dungeon to distract Hogwarts faculty and students while he attempts to steal the Sorcerer’s Stone from the forbidden third-floor corridor.

He announces this intruder with terror during the Halloween feast:

Relatedly, in a recent text message to Mike:

COCKROACH!!! IN THE DUNGEON!!! Thought you ought to know.

Yes, we’ve had a cockroach infestation and it is horrifying. We’ve fought these intruders with roach traps and paper towel-wielding hands (Mike’s hands, not mine, obviously).

The problem seems to have died out, but I don’t think I’ll ever get over the fear of something clattering near my hand as I reach up into the cleaning closet…nor, I fear, will my mind ever dissociate the lovely smell of my almond floor cleaning solution (which is really quite lovely!) with the risk of finding a nasty cockraoch somewhere near, dead or alive.

P.S. You might want to know that “troll in the dungeon” seems to have turned into something of a one-man flash mob. There’s a pretty good one here.
