Is it worth to be selfless

Growing up in India, I was always taught to be nice to everyone to the extent of pleasing them. To always put others before our self. That’s what is selflessness right.

So I should think about my parents first for they gave birth to me. I should worry about my family and relatives before me as they care about me. Teachers are the all-good souls who impart their precious knowledge to us. So it’s only given that we respect their wishes before ours.
Who else is left, our amazing friends! Well, they are like second family so we should put their needs before our own.

By the end of this list, there are hundreds of people whose wishes should matter more than our own. How can this ever work out?
The simple answer is it doesn’t work out well. This is where we start getting disappointed, stressed, frustrated or even fed up of our lives. Our entire lifetime is also not enough to live up to other people’s expectations.

But there is an easier way. Loving ourselves. Not to the extent of being self obsessed. But by taking care of ourselves, our emotions and our needs. When we do this, we tend to be less disappointed when our friends or family fail us.

Positivity is a very strong emotion which comes from within when we are happy. How can we keep the people around us happy and content when we ourselves are struggling to keep us fine. Be happy and everything else will fall in place.

P.S — “Go for the decisions that make you happy because at the end sacrifices will only bring momentary joy ”.
