Basic overview
When COVID-19 found its way to Arizona, new tech solutions were needed to handle emerging challenges. The team behind SchoolTrace hopped into action to swiftly create tools to help school communities track cases and prevent outbreaks and provide resources to communities left in the dark by disjointed guidance.

Opportunity
The community-focused firm Cradl saw a need in their local school systems and set to work designing, developing, and building a tool that could help school administrators discover possible exposures without violating important privacy rules. Thus, SchoolTrace was born. Their leadership also knew they’d need to provide resources around emerging and developing CDC guidance on in-school education during the COVID-19 pandemic. They looped us in early on to help with the design and build of their tracker tool and, simultaneously, their website and supporting collateral.
Solution
We partnered with Cradl to create the SchoolTrace platform, a platform uniquely suited to help schools, locally in Arizona and beyond, track the spread of cases and assess potential exposures. They came to us with an idea and we worked with them to design and build it.
This was a unique challenge due to the rapidly changing situation. We were glad to be able to assist the founders of SchoolTrace with build, design, and marketing efforts while they worked diligently to find out from educators, families, and education advocates how best SchoolTrace could support them in returning students and staff safely to school.
New tools for new challenges
We were able to assist SchoolTrace in designing and launching a website, getting the word out about their services through social media, and building a portal tool that offers easy import or building of class lists, attendance records, and other activity records that allow for automated identification of individuals who may be at risk in the case of a positive test result with preservation of HIPAA compliance.
SchoolTrace became — together with Little Taller — a recipient of an EmergeAZ Fast Grant from invisionAZ and StartupAZ, given in partnership with the Arizona Governor’s Office.
