Isaiah 49:5 NIV

And now the Lord says —
he who formed me in the womb to be his servant
to bring Jacob back to him
and gather Israel to himself,
for I am honoured in the eyes of the Lord
and my God has been my strength…

he who formed me in the womb to be his servant
The lord formed you and I in the womb. He determined the cells which would meet and connect and he formed our DNA. He chose each part of my DNA to build me from within to become a perfect human son. His intention, in his meticulous attention to each cell, chemical process and stage of growth was to prepare me for the privilege of serving him. I need to get this. Despite sin, sickness, and satan, the Lord still works actively to form my body, soul and mind for service. I am made to serve him. I am designed to worship him and to love him. Every single part of my being has been intricately designed for this purpose. When I understand this, my life begins to find shape and purpose.

to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself
The particular ministry or service that a Christian is called to varies according to personality, temperament, gifting and anointing. But all of these serve one great purpose: to bring others back.

Isaiah says it like this:

to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself

Jesus said summarised it like this:

I have come to seek and save the lost. Luke 19:10

I know that the Isaiah verse is an Old Testament scripture from an Old Testament prophet. But it reflects the unchanging heart of God to people far from him. Paul talks about the ministry of reconciliation in Romans. Our privilege is to serve those around us in such a way that reveals the heart of God and draws men to Jesus.

Remember, He made us perfectly to serve.
Application
1. To bring people back to Christ and to gather people to God. T
