The Accidental Wedding Photographer
How to Shoot a Wedding When You Don’t Normally Shoot Weddings
Most of the time, you don’t see it coming. You’re sitting around the table with friends or family, having a bite to eat and exchanging stories. Then it lands.
“Sarah and I are getting married in April, and we were wondering if you could shoot our wedding.”
You like them both. You’re thrilled for their upcoming nuptials. And after a short pause, you mindlessly say, “Yes.”
Then you begin to evaluate what you’ve just done. First, you’re not a wedding photographer. Second, you may have done weddings in the past, but that was a long time ago. And third, even if you have, you sold all of that wedding gear and bought stuff for the photography that you really like, which is most likely, landscapes.
What to do now? First, take a breath, then begin to build a simple game plan and figure out how to use the gear you already have.
I was recently that photographer who said, “Yes.” And now I’m preparing for an April wedding. And here’s how.
