You might think that it is straightforward to define street photography.

Candid moments are captured on the street with a story behind them. Simple.

It's also simple to do in theory. You grab a camera, put on comfortable shoes, open the door, and go out.

There are actually tons of different styles within street photography. And just as many photographers with their unique twists. There's no one-size-fits-all rulebook — it's all about how you see the world around you.

Although categorization is always tricky in a diverse and entangled genre like street photography, let’s consider these categories.

  • Clever
  • Raw
  • In-your-face
  • Social Documentary
  • Street Portraits
  • Fine Art
  • Abstract
  • Geometric
  • All-in-one

In this three-part story (more next week), I'll explain some of the different types of street photography.

You'll get inspiration and see examples from all-time legends and contemporary fellows I admire.

You’ll also see some of my own photos, and I’ll explain what I was thinking when I took them.
