Journal writing is way more than just writing about how your day went. It’s a tool we use to reflect on your past actions, opinions, thoughts and mindfulness. It’s the key to our self-discovery.

Many people think it’s narcissistic to write about their problems and accomplishments. If you ever feel this way, remember that narcissism is the excessive interest in or admiration of oneself and one’s physical appearance. Journaling, however, is the authentic reflection into who you are as a person.

Various ways a journal can help you in self-discovery

When you are writing a journal, you don’t have to write down everything. Your journal entry could be about that one time you saw somebody crying when you were walking home from work.

  • How did that make you feel?
  • What did you do about that situation?
  • Why did you feel that way?

You might never know what you might end up writing. Through that journal entry, you might realize you miss your sister and how much you wish the world is a lot kinder to her.

Journaling can really unlock the parts of you that you’ve subconscious hid.
