That which comes and goes, rises and sets, is born and dies is the ego. That which always abides, never changes, and is devoid of qualities is the Self — Ramana Maharshi

To be successful in life, one must have a healthy ego. Does criticism scare you? Do you indulge in negative self-talk? Is there a tug of war between your mental and emotional stability?

The chances are high that you are fueling your ego to take over you. Do you deny it?

You are not contradicting it is your ego subjugating you.

The ego denies its existence. Confirmation leads to ego death, which sabotages the stability, certainty, confidence, and self-esteem.

Take responsibility

We are accustomed from birth to blame, name, and shame. We are not ready to take responsibility for our actions, reactions, thoughts, or feelings.

It is not that the action of others does not have an impact on you.

Everyone is related to each other in this universe. We are all one, and at the same time, differ as individuals.

In that case, it is helpful if we take responsibility for our actions.

We cannot change what others do to us, but we can change the way we react to it.

We can stop the blame game and start taking control of our thoughts and feelings.

Whatever is out of our control is subject to be taken care of by the universe. We do not have to worry about it.

Live in present

Dwelling in the past creates depression. It stops us from focusing on the present. The inner wounded child nurtures the deflated ego.

Living in the future creates anxiety, which causes fear. Fear, blame, and shame feeds the ego and makes it grow into a wildfire.

Living in the present balances our ego and tames it.

Yesterday is extinct; Tomorrow is undisclosed; Today is the day offered to you, utilize it, and live your life to the fullest.

Don’t choke it

Do not hate yourself if your ego dominates you. Feeling low favors your ego. It loves to keep you under it when you acknowledge it and feel guilty. If you try to kill your ego overnight and choke it, it will take its gigantic head and crush you into pieces.

Your ego grew in a leisure phase. It needs to undergo a slow death.

Take things slowly and let your ego dangle loosely around your soul.

You are not a perfectionist

If I feel I am a perfectionist, then I am the biggest fool.

It’s a pretty old saying, and it might even be a cliche, but it’s an eternal truth, “To err is human.”

Yes, it is. To make mistakes is our design. We can’t change the fundamental design. Feeling you are always right, is the biggest lie very well known by your soul, but it takes a hell lot of guts to accept it.

When we avow that we aren’t perfect, things level out in life.

Be open to criticism

“The trouble with most of us is that we’d rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.” — Norman Vincent Peale

When we try to close ourselves to criticism, our mind struggles to handle it. Then our ego intervenes and takes over to handle it. That is when the problem arises.

By being open to criticism, we will understand the criticism made on us. When we thoroughly understand, we can work on it. If the criticism is constructive, we can consider the good intentions in it and work on the area that requires attention. If it is destructive, we can ignore it and move on. By doing this, we can maintain a healthy ego.

Hear the voice of your soul

Your ego deceives you by impersonating your mind’s voice.

Listen to the voice of your soul. It never fabricates the truth.

To hear your soul’s voice, get out of all the real world commotions, and spare ten minutes for you and with you. Sit in a calm place and do nothing. The soul’s voice is masked. Start with a positive pep talk in your head. It reveals itself only if you give a positive boost to it. Once you hear the voice of it, leave your trouble in its hand. Things will improve.

Step back, breathe, and practice the ways to eradicate your over-sized ego. You are the thoughts, and you are the actions. Feel empowered. Let your ego scream for attention and get exhausted.
