No One Thanked Her for Her Service
Vanessa Guillen, a soldier from Fort Hood in Killeen Texas, had been missing for a long time, too long to expect a happy ending, but each day we hoped. We hoped for her safe return even as a pandemic made nothing safe, and people all over the country took to the streets to protest the police killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd.
