The Ability to Work Under Pressure Is a Necessity

Doesn’t need to make it to your CV

When people put on their resume that they can work under pressure, I see it as a necessity and not something to really brag about. Just like seeking admission into a Ph.D. program and saying you can read and write on your application letter.

It’s a necessity that everyone should have at that level. Because without it, you won’t be able to follow through. Or you won’t even have gotten admitted in the first place.

Every University student works under pressure. From the exams, turning in assignments, impromptu tests, etc.

There’s always pressure. You have to be prepared at all times.

And that’s how the workforce is — full-time employee, freelancer, entrepreneur, anybody — there’s always pressure.

Imagine if, as a freelancer, you get a gig that requires you to turn it in on short notice (already putting you under pressure). You know that it’s urgent, so you try to make a way.

All of these impromptu assignments make you more trustworthy in your clients’ eyes. One of the best things that can happen to you in the freelancer-client relationship is being their go-to-guy.

When they see you as the person they can count on; you can easily charge higher fees. They won’t have any choice other than to accept, because who wants to lose someone so reliable?

So, my point is, if you’re trying to thrive as a freelancer, entrepreneur, employee, whoever, if you can’t work under pressure and adapt to situations swiftly, you’ll struggle — a lot.
