It was one of those scorching mid-summer Florida days where it feels as if a hot, wet blanket is tossed over you the second you venture outside. I was visiting a family member at the Teen Challenge addiction and alcohol recovery center in Sanford, and the chill air of their reception area felt heaven-sent.

Glancing around the room, I saw sort of a mini shrine in a tall glass display case in the corner. Featured prominently front and center was a book entitled “Fearless.” The photo above was on the cover, as was the signature of the author, Eric Blehm.

The rest of the display contained several photographs, a small notebook, a patch with a red crusader cross, a Navy SEAL trident pin, a bible, and a name tag.

On the tag was written, “Adam Brown.”

“Who’s Adam Brown,” I asked the kindly looking older lady behind the reception desk. I noticed that the photographs in the display contained the image of the man on the cover of the book.

“Adam was probably our best-known resident.”, she said with a slight sigh. “We really miss him around here.”
