Why Quick Fixes Don’t Work in Personal Development
And what does work
We’re all looking for that quick fix to our daily problems. Hoping we can find a one-stop-shop manual letting us know how to get rid of our bad habits and poor decision-making skills. Unfortunately, quick fixes don’t exist.
Quick Fixes only temporarily solve our problems. It’s like putting duct tape on your bike when you were a kid. It may have helped it last till the end of the week but eventually, you had to buy a new one.
The hypothetical duct tape only holds your problem together for so long. Eventually, you must find a more sustainable solution for your everlasting problem.
Thanks to our ancestors, instant gratification is ingrained in our DNA. We want things as quick as possible and to keep them coming regularly. This was because our distant ancestors’ tomorrows were not promised.
Tribes migrating and taking out others, dangerous animals roaming for food, disease, low birth rates, and so on. Our ancestors learned to take advantage of each day and live to the fullest because they knew days on Earth were limited.
We now know it’s human nature to look for the easiest way to solve our problems. What we don’t understand is that easy = duct tape.
