Livepeer teamed up with streaming platform Glass on November 4th to co-host COLLIDE, an event on the sidelines of NFT.NYC that made a bit of Web3 history (and featured a whole lot of great music and dancing).

COLLIDE was the first-ever live concert to include live minting of video non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In-person attendees, joined via livestream by viewers from all over the world, participated in this new convergence of technology and art. Attendees of the live event were invited to capture the performance of musicians, DJs and dancers as video NFTs. These were then minted and shared for immediate sale on OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace.

COLLIDE allowed real-world and virtual audiences to experience technology in an entirely new way, one not possible prior to the decentralized Internet and NFTs. The concert featured the talents of top Spotify artist Marc E. Bassy, leading DJs Sirsu and Mark Wolf, dancer Delacyn, and hip hop artist Latasha.

Livepeer empowers developers who serve the $100 billion creator economy by offering reliable, top-class video transcoding and hosting for orders of magnitude less than centralized cloud providers. And we have found the perfect partner in Glass, the platform that puts ownership of the videos it hosts in the hands of those who make them. Every video on Glass is minted as an NFT — a piece of digital property that its creator can decide when and how to monetize.

Both projects share a deeply-held commitment to building a world where creators, not centrally owned platforms, control content and decide when, where and with whom it is shared. We see COLLIDE as an illustration of this vision. By allowing participants to create videos with tangible value in real-time, COLLIDE offered a tantalizing glimpse of what Web3 makes possible for creators.

The creator economy has boomed in the past few years, with even greater gains forecasted ahead. Now, with decentralized infrastructure protocols like Livepeer and Glass, creators can escape the constraints of Web2 and the control of Big Tech for the freedom of Web3, which we believe will play a major role in the growth to come by offering high-quality, scalable, and affordable infrastructure.

We expect COLLIDE to be the first of many ground-breaking events that will push the boundaries of what decentralized technology makes possible for creators everywhere.
