Livepeer’s August packed with key changes, new goals, and big ideas

August was a period of important developments for Livepeer, as we geared up for a busy autumn. Here are just a few highlights of a productive month for the world’s decentralized video infrastructure:

· ETHGlobal’s HackFS 2021 inspired a raft of ingenious ideas for Livepeer-powered projects. We were one of 22 sponsors of the innovation marathon, which ran through most of August and drew 150+ submissions from 670 hackers in 70 countries. Five of those — ranging from a platform that will help meme creators prove ownership to a Chrome extension for virtual property owners in the Metaverse who want to market to prospective buyers — shared in a $4,000 bounty posted by Livepeer. · Founder Doug Petkanics called on the Livepeer community to work together to ensure that the 66 top performing node operators are backed by enough LPT to allow them to operate profitably at current Ethereum gas rates by the end of September. As of now, this is true for about half of the 37 leading orchestrators. Widening that pool of top earners will require us to band together over the next few weeks to: a) add 29 more nodes to this number by ramping up performance; b) attract new orchestrators to the project; and c) make sure the next 49 nodes on our leader board are backed by enough LPT to allow them to profitably call reward.

· Livepeer welcomed Meredith Tretiak on board as the new head of global marketing for Livepeer.org. Meredith has spent more than a decade growing innovative digital properties and will be instrumental in raising awareness of Livepeer’s brand, mission, plans and achievements in the world at large. · Doug sat down with Tegan Kline, co-founder and business lead of Edge and Node, to dig into the rise of Ethereum and how Livepeer’s distributed infrastructure can help a whole generation of streaming start-ups enter the Web3 space.
