The recently-released sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World has hit the box office with fairly positive reviews from publications, and with a mixed reaction from audience-goers.

Fallen Kingdom (released on the 6th of June) continues the story of Claire Dearring and Owen Grady, left from Jurassic World, but engages far more with the series’ original source material, in the form of Michael Criton’s Jurassic Park novels.

The movie seems to take the series into a different direction than previous instalments, yet paying homage to some of the series’ most classic moments.

The majority of the film takes place on the mainland, and the ending seems to point to the possibility of the next movie involving humans learning to co-exist with the dinosaurs as they spread out across the globe.

The movie once again features a diverse cast, with realistic and strong female characters at the forefront, and it provides excellent commentary on animal rights and the dangers of genetic power.

Director J.A. Bayona, manages to find a perfect balance among gore, comedy, and tension, and the death scenes in Fallen Kingdom remind us far more of the types of gore the original trilogy had to offer.

Wth his previous horror movie, The Orphanage, Bayona uses his experience to take us back and make viewers feel the same sorts of horror from the three original movies.

Fallen Kingdom also uses far more practical effects, like animatonics, and full-sized scale dinosaur models, which adds far more realism to the whole movie.

This new design beats the far too clean and polished CGI of Jurassic World, which hardly used any practical effects at all.
