Mauritian Architecture & Surfing History

Happy Days B&B is a 5 minutes’ drive from Le Morne.

This is where we stayed the first few days. Mauritius is a spot we recommend to couples for a romantic trip with an postcard setting. If you go to surf , cool, bring your girlfriend not a big group of friends. It will make finding a picture-perfect, well-protected wave much more acceptable. The area is not really welcoming mass surf tourism, it’s part of the charm and the main reason we visited this cult spot. We would rather recommend you get (back) into the good old windsurfing. This is the main reason for us to return. Enjoy the dreamy setup at Le Morne where kitesurfing lifts you into another dimension,… But above all this trip was about romance. Pre-honeymoon vibes in the air. Happy days …

Below are 3 more options to Live The Mauritian Life… 10 more options RIGHT HERE. Where would you stay to LTL ?

OPTION ONE Sands Suites Resort & Spa

A delightful beach and dreamy lagoon. Beautified by a shimmering infinity pool …

Sands Suites Resort & Spa is located on one of the most pristine stretches of beach at Flic en Flac, on the west coast of Mauritius, overlooking the translucent blue and turquoise lagoon of the Tamarin Bay and the legendary rock of Le Morne peninsula.

Mauritius has gained an exotic image in the heart of surfers thanks to 1974’s Forgotten Island of Santosha. The film focused largely on Tamarin Bay, a perfect wave that became a symbol of escapism. The spot had been surfed since the early 1960s, but the epic 8–10ft swell featured in the film captured the attention of the surfing world.

Unfortunately Tamarin turned out to be inconsistent, leaving many travelling surfers disappointed. Since then, the focus has shifted to the more consistent, neighbouring island of Réunion. Mauritius has a lack of optimum southwest-facing shores, while the south-facing coast is frequently blown-out by SE trade winds. The local surfing tradition goes back years, but it developed in a sad way, leading to a reputation for localism. Throughout the ’80s and ’90s, white Mauritians called “White Shorts” regulated the wave at Tamarin, but the group has since mellowed considerably and generally is no longer an issue. STORMRIDER
