I Won’t Capitulate To Trump
The Washington Post and LA Times refusal to endorse a Presidential candidate doesn’t say anything good about traditional media
So, both the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times are refusing to endorse anyone for President this year.
What these newspaper’s decision not to endorse a Presidential candidate could mean
Both newspapers are owned by billionaires. The Washington Post is owned by Jeff Bezos, who everyone knows is the founder of giant online retailer Amazon. The Los Angeles Times is owned by Patrick Soon-Shiong, a doctor and the founder of the healthcare software company Nantheath.
The decision by both billionaire owners not to endorse any presidential candidates angered many of the staffers at both newspapers, to the point where some have resigned over the matter. There are two different schools of thought as to why these owners won’t allow their newspapers to endorse anyone.
Some believe that both Bezos and Soon-Shiong are trying to curry favor with Donald Trump as they believe that his re-election could result in them getting their taxes lowered. For instance, Amazon paid no federal income taxes from 2017–2019, years they earned record-high profits. And in 2021, they only paid a 6% tax rate on a $35 billion profit. That year…
